We have no choice but to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2030.
As a global community, we need to align ourselves on a shared vision and values system to enable transformational changes to lead us to a sustainable future. A vision that supports sustainable development through transformational changes that simultaneously address the economic, social, and ecological dimensions. A future that leaves nobody behind. Information and communication technologies (ICT) and the ongoing digital transformation are key for such transformational change. For example, digital solutions can reduce multiple times more GHG emissions than they emit and enable the transition to a circular economy if designed and applied sustainably.
Unfortunately, the potential of digital transformation to accelerate the green transition has not yet been realised. One of the key reasons is the lack of understanding and skills needed to apply the digitally-enabled innovations in ways to ensure a positive contribution to the environment and climate while minimising the negative rebound effects leading to increased energy and material consumption.

That is why UNEP, UNFCCC, EU and BMZ/GIZ have come together to create the Digital4Sustainability Interactive Learning Programme powered by atingi, the digital learning platform from the German development cooperation.
